At Odom Correctional Institution, it is normal for there to be a delay before your husband can use the phone.

What happens after arrival:

  • He must go through intake and orientation
  • Orientation can take place anytime within the first few days up to a few weeks
  • During this time, access to phones may be limited or not available

Phone access setup:

  • He needs to submit and get approval for his phone list
  • Once approved, he can begin making calls

About adding money for calls:

  • If he is using the inmate-paid system (like Global Tel Link):
    • Money added to his account is usually available quickly, sometimes the same day
    • Delays can happen depending on how the deposit is made

Typical timeline:

  • A few days to a week: still in intake, limited access
  • Up to a couple weeks: phone list approved and calling begins

Bottom line:
It can take a little time to get set up, but once his phone list is approved and funds are available, he should be able to call regularly.
