Yes. Inmates have access to an internal closed communication system within the facility that keeps them informed of activity on their accounts. Through this system they can see their phone minute balance, their commissary account balance, and any new activity associated with their accounts.

When funds are added to a phone account, the inmate is notified through this internal system. If they do not actively use the system a paper note is typically placed on their bunk to make sure the notification reaches them regardless of their circumstances.

One useful feature of this internal system is that inmates can move funds between accounts. If an inmate has money in their commissary account and needs phone minutes, they can transfer some or all of those funds into their phone account directly without any outside assistance required.

However there is one important step that still requires your involvement. The specific phone number you want your inmate to call must be shared with them directly and added to their approved call list before any calls can connect. The facility notifies them of account activity but does not automatically know which new number you have set up through InmateAid. Make sure they have your new number and have submitted it for approval through their case manager or the facility phone kiosk.
