This is a situation where the answer is not just logistical but personal, and it deserves a direct response. Based on what you have shared, the Substance Abuse Program is the right choice.

Being returned to county from work release for a failed alcohol test, even under disputed circumstances, signals to the system that there is an unresolved issue that work release alone was not enough to address. Whether or not your husband believes the test result was accurate, the practical reality is that the violation has already cost him his EOS date and put his release timeline back significantly. Sitting in county until August 2016 means serving every remaining day with nothing to show for it on the rehabilitative side of his record.

SAP changes that equation. It is a structured program designed specifically for individuals with substance use history, and completing it successfully carries real weight at sentencing reviews and release hearings. More importantly, crack cocaine and alcohol, even when use feels controlled or situational, represent a pattern that the system will continue to flag at every stage of supervision. A program that addresses that pattern directly gives your husband tools that extend well beyond the current sentence.

The original charge, a trace amount of crack cocaine, reflects the kind of low-level drug offense where rehabilitation programming genuinely influences outcomes. Judges and parole boards look favorably on inmates who take initiative to address underlying issues rather than simply waiting out their time.

Our strong opinion is that SAP is the better path, not just for getting out sooner, but for staying out.
