The inmate profiles are set up by the member/users of the website. We do not monitor, verify or update the profiles unless requested by the member/user. If you would like us to create an inmate profile we would be happy to do it for you. We need as much information as possible to locate them. Mail is considered sacred in a prison, detention center or jail and it will get delivered when an inmate is in administrative segregation, the SHU or "the hole". They can also get money into their account but the actual spending will be somewhat restricted to a limited amount of items at the commissary.

The mail is sent through the US Postal Service with first-class postage. There is no return receipt on the letter and the mail room staff of the facility does not notify the sender that they have actually handed out the mail. If your inmate does not receive the letter within a reasonable time frame, let us know and we will investigate the reason. The letter and photo service from InmateAid is straightforward. You type up a letter and upload photos where applicable - proceed to the Pay Now page and complete the transaction. In a majority of institutions, there is a small charge for a doctor visit. It is usually in the range of $3-5 for the visit. Visits to the infirmary to see the nurse are not always charged. This is different in every facility.

In most private prisons, the procedure is to make the money order out to the name of the facility and place the inmate's name in the memo section with their inmate ID number. When you mail it into the institution, address the envelope to the inmate with their inmate ID. The facilities provide shoes although they are of a minimalist nature. Most offer a choice of upgrades through the commissary. The choices include various work boots to several sneaker brands. One other way inmates get shoes is that there are always the industrious inmates who have contacts in the system where they resell shoes left over from inmates who have been released. The prices for the used goods are paid for with items from the commissary (usually not exceeding $5-10).

The problem is that there are no programs in place for people on the outside to effectuate assistance on the inside in this genre to date. The only way we've seen citizens actually make impacts on inmates while incarcerated is in the Alcohol Anonymous area and in some isolated drug abuse situations. Email is becoming more available everyday in the prisons and jails. It depends on where your inmate is incarcerated. There is no Internet access. The federal prisons have a program called Corrlinks, it is a closed system where an inmate will send an invite to a specific email address.
