There is no single, universal brand of prepaid calling card that works across all jails and prisons. Most facilities do not use traditional calling cards at all. Instead, they rely on their own contracted phone providers, and inmates must use the system set up by that specific facility.

If your husband says the card is blocked, it is likely because:

  • The facility does not accept third-party calling cards
  • The phone system only works with its approved provider
  • Funds need to be added to his official phone account instead

This is why services like Global Tel do not deal with calling cards. The systems inside correctional facilities are closed networks, and outside cards usually will not work.

The best approach is:

  • Confirm which phone provider the facility uses
  • Add money directly to your husband’s phone or trust account through that provider
  • Avoid buying third-party calling cards unless the facility specifically allows them

InmateAid is also working on its own calling solutions designed to work within these systems, which will provide a more reliable and cost-effective option once available.
