Subject: Survive prison

PC or protective custody or administrative segregation is also known as the SHU, special housing unit, the hole, solitary confinement. Therefore the rules are the same for all inmates in the SHU. There is only one phone call per week, limited commissary, limited rec and limited showers. So, to answer your question - "yes they will have to wait unit it is their day to call." Mine was on Friday.

They are normally passed a receipt of sorts to them through mail call.

If they are moved within the same system, like federal-to-federal or state-to-state the mail will get forwarded. If they cross over or are sent to county for court, then the mail will be returned. If you send your mail through InmateAid, they will resend it for you at no charge, just let them know where the inmate was transferred.

If he is cool and understands the rule of respect, he will have no problem. If he knows the streets, he can survive prison. Gangs are another story. If he is white and not in a gang, that is a good think in the eyes of the blacks. But, honestly, there is a lot more tolerance in the world today between races as long as there are no gangs involved.

Everyone is different. When I first got there, I was buying all kinds of snacks and candy. I thought having those sweet things to eat, would make me feel better. But the more time I did, the more I got into working out and getting into great shape. That is when my preferences changed from sweet to "protein" which meant packets of tuna, mackerel, salmon and chicken. They run anywhere from $1.25 for tuna to $3.75 for chicken.

You should call the facility first before you do anything and see if they would allow it. In state prison, some states allow you to send shoes or work boots (or order them for the inmate and they are shipped in). In federal you definitely cannot. All extra footware is bought through the commissary. The pricing is very fair for sneakers and boots. The inmate would need money on their books to be able to acquire them.

Subject: Sentencing questions

This is going to depend heavily on what the facts of this crime were that came out during the trial. How badly was the assaulted person hurt? Was there any property damage?  The judge will consider his criminal history which is a big negative in this case, meaning that his priors will surely send him back.  If the "damaging" facts are light, it could be a short sentence (3-5yrs); if it's a bad set of facts it could be a long time.
