The Joseph V. Conte Jail is a detention center located at 1351 NW 27th Ave Pompano Beach, FL which is operated locally by the Broward County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Broward County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Pompano Beach Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Florida here.

The Joseph Conte Facility, located adjacent to the North Broward County Detention Center in Pompano Beach, FL, predominantly housing inmates awaiting trial, operates as a male, medium-custody facility under direct supervision. This approach ensures that deputies are stationed within the housing units, directly engaging with inmates. The facility provides comprehensive services within its confines, including meals, recreation, counseling, treatment programs, and medical care, negating the necessity to transport inmates to external locations. Conte is program-intensive and offers a range of services, including 30-day substance abuse programs and various educational initiatives.

Housing assignments are determined objectively, prioritizing the least restrictive and safest units based on the required security level. Proximity to an inmate's home does not influence assignment decisions; rather, inmates are placed where their needs can be best met.

In terms of inmate activities, services, and programs, provisions such as television access, reading materials, outdoor recreation, and exercise equipment are available. Additionally, the BSO's Department of Detention & Community Programs offers a diverse array of services, covering educational, therapeutic, and rehabilitative needs.

Furthermore, Broward County inmates convicted of non-violent offenses participate in labor programs benefiting publicly funded and non-profit organizations within the county. These Inmate Work Units engage in community improvement projects, such as beach clean-ups and playground construction, under the supervision of BSO deputies. Pre-qualified inmates, with appropriate medical clearance and no prior escape record, partake in these initiatives, contributing to significant cost savings for Broward taxpayers.

Regarding incoming mail, deliveries occur Monday through Friday, with all items subject to inspection for security threats and contraband. Legal mail is opened solely in the presence of the inmate addressee, while inmates are permitted to receive letters and cards.
