The Cheboygan Co Jail is a detention center located at 870 S Main St Cheboygan, MI which is operated locally by the Cheboygan County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Cheboygan County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Cheboygan Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The Cheboygan County Jail currently has a capacity of 83 beds. The jail houses pre-trial detainees and prisoners sentenced to 1 year or less.

  • Items allowed to be received via mail----money orders, photo's, commercially printed religious materials, magazines and soft cover books. Books and magazines must be sent directly from the publisher.
  • Items not allowed---stamps, extra envelopes, blank paper, magazines or newspaper articles, jewelry, food items, books or magazines advocating discrimination, sexually exploited pictures, cash, personal or company checks.
  • Incoming and outgoing mail may be read to insure the security of the inmate, staff, and the public.

COMMISSARY

  • All incoming items shall be acquired through the commissary, with the exception of white socks and white underwear, and a soft covered Bible or one other religious soft covered book, which may be brought in on visiting day.
  • You may not spend more than $50 per week on commissary items. You may only order 14 food items and may not possess more than 14 food items at any time.
  • Delivery of commissary is done on Wednesday evening.
  • Orders received after your release will be disposed of if not claimed within 7 days.
  • Under no circumstances shall inmates leave commissary items for other inmates.
  • You must have money in your account to cover your order. Inmates who are indigent (less than $2.00) for two weeks may receive indigent hygiene items weekly by submitting an order.
  • No credit will be given once an order is submitted.

Visitation Information

Cheboygan County Jail - Visitation

Visiting days are Sunday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 10:30pm.

  • You are allowed one (1) thirty-minute visit per visiting day.
  • You and your visitors are to be properly and completely dressed.
  • Maximum of 2 visitors per visit.
  • All visitors must be seventeen (17) years of age or accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • All visitors must sign in on the visitors' log.
  • Improper ID or lack of ID will be a reason to terminate or disallow visits.
  • Any improper behavior by an inmate or visitor will result in termination of the visit.
  • Former Cheboygan County Jail Inmates must be out of jail for at least 90 days prior to visiting another inmate.
  • Money, 7 pairs of white socks, 7 pairs of white underwear, and a soft cover bible or one other religious soft covered book are the only items accepted. (Accepted during visiting hours only)
