The Dare Co Jail is a detention center located at 1044 Driftwood Dr Manteo, NC which is operated locally by the Dare County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Dare County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Manteo Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The Dare County Detention Center is located next to Dare County Regional Airport is a public airport located one mile northwest of the central business district of Manteo. This general aviation airport covers 340 acres and has two runways. Automated information, such as inmate sentences and projected release date, may be obtained statewide by calling 1.877.NCSAVAN (1.877.627.2826).
Inmates may receive reading material through the mail, but the items must come directly from the publisher. This does include Amazon and newspaper distributors.

Family and friends whose names appear on the inmate's visitation list (maximum of 5 names) may visit.
Up to 4 persons (including children) may visit at one time; however, no inmate will have a total of more than 30 minutes of visitation per scheduled day. Inmates in lockdown will have 15 minutes of visitation per scheduled day. Inmates sentenced to serve less than four (4) consecutive days, or those classified as "weekenders" do not get visitation privileges.
