If someone you love is locked up in Indiana, getting money into their account covers commissary - food, hygiene, phone time, writing supplies - and keeps the connection alive. Indiana's state prison system uses ViaPath (also known as ConnectNetwork and GTL) as its single deposit and communications platform. County jails operate separately with their own vendors.
Indiana splits adult custody into two systems: the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) for state prison sentences, and county jails operated by county sheriffs for pretrial detainees and shorter sentences. Confirm which one your person is in before sending anything.
State prisons: IDOC and ViaPath/ConnectNetwork
If your person is in an Indiana Department of Correction state prison facility, the deposit platform is ViaPath - accessed through ConnectNetwork.com. ViaPath handles all of IDOC's money accounts, phone calls, digital correspondence, video visits, and tablet services.
There are four types of accounts you can fund, depending on what you want the money to be used for:
Trust Fund account - the commissary account. Money deposited here can be used like cash at the facility's commissary to buy food, hygiene items, clothing, and other approved goods. This is the primary account families fund.
AdvancePay account - a prepaid calling account that allows the incarcerated person to call only your phone number using deposited funds.
PIN Debit account - allows the incarcerated person to pay for their own calls to any phone numbers allowed by the facility. Generally less expensive per call than AdvancePay. The person can also fund this from their commissary/trust account.
Debit Link account - used for ViaPath tablet services such as streaming music, games, and eBooks. Cannot be used for commissary. All Debit Link purchases are final - no refunds.
Most families sending money for general support will fund the Trust Fund (commissary) account.
How to deposit to an IDOC Trust Fund account
Online - go to ConnectNetwork.com, sign in or create an account, and deposit to the Trust Fund. Credit and debit cards accepted.
Mobile app - download ConnectNetwork by ViaPath on Apple or Android. Not all features may be available on the Apple version.
By phone - call 888-988-4768 (Trust Fund line) to deposit over the phone. For AdvancePay deposits call 800-483-8314. For PIN Debit call 855-706-2445.
By money order - the mail option. Several rules apply:
Make the money order payable to "ViaPath Financial Services." (The payment is forwarded to the Indiana Department of Correction.)
Use the incarcerated person's full name and double-check their DOC number - both are required.
The maximum money order amount is $300.00. Money orders must be in US dollars.
A deposit form must accompany every money order. Detach the form and send it with the money order - do not tape, staple, or paper clip it to the money order. Deposit forms are available in English and Spanish on the IDOC website.
Do not include staples, paper clips, stamps, cash, letters, photos, or any other items with your deposit. Mail the form and money order only.
Mail the completed deposit form and money order to:
ViaPath Financial Services
2603 NW 13th Street, PO Box #328
Gainesville, FL 32609-2835
Trust fund deposit fees vary by correctional facility. Check the fees associated with your person's specific facility by signing in to your ConnectNetwork account.
The DOC number is required
The DOC number is the identification number assigned to every Indiana state prison incarcerated person. Every deposit method requires it. Find it using the Indiana Offender Search at in.gov/idoc or through the IDOC Offender Locator.
A note on messaging and photos
The IDOC website notes that friends and family must create a new account at GettingOut.com to send messages and photos to Indiana state prison incarcerated individuals. GettingOut is the messaging platform operated by ViaPath. This is separate from the ConnectNetwork deposit process but uses the same ViaPath ecosystem.
County jails: vendor varies by county
Indiana has 92 counties, each with its own jail or detention facility operated by the county sheriff. County jails set their own deposit vendors independently of IDOC. The vendor varies by county, and most do not use ViaPath/ConnectNetwork for trust account deposits.
Marion County Adult Detention Center (Indianapolis), at 695 Justice Way, uses ConnectNetwork for trust account deposits - one of the counties that does use ViaPath at the county level. You can deposit online at ConnectNetwork.com, by phone at 800-483-8314, or in person at kiosks in the Community Justice Campus lobby at 675 Justice Way (cash, Visa, or Mastercard debit or credit cards; photo ID required at the kiosk). For questions, call 317-327-1700.
Lake County Jail uses Access Securepak for commissary packages and inmate support. Contact: 800-546-6283.
DeKalb County Jail uses Access Corrections for commissary account deposits - online at accesscorrections.com or by phone at 636-888-7004. Lobby kiosk available.
Allen County (Fort Wayne) and other counties have their own vendor arrangements. Check the specific county sheriff's website or call the jail directly.
Accounts do not transfer between vendors. When your person moves from a county jail to an IDOC state prison - or between county jails using different vendors - the account and balance stay with the original vendor. You set up a new account with the new provider.
Federal custody in Indiana
If your person is in federal Bureau of Prisons custody in Indiana - including FCI Terre Haute, USP Terre Haute, or FCI Greencastle - deposits go through the BOP Trust Fund via Western Union, MoneyGram at retail, or online at bop.gov. You need the eight-digit BOP register number. Do not use ViaPath/ConnectNetwork or IDOC deposit methods for federal inmates.
What to know before you send anything
Get the DOC number first. Every IDOC deposit method requires it along with the full name. Find it through the Indiana Offender Locator at in.gov/idoc.
Choose the right account type. Trust Fund is for commissary spending. AdvancePay is for calls to your number. PIN Debit is for the person to make their own calls. Debit Link is for tablet media only and has no refunds.
Money order maximum is $300. The hard limit per money order is $300. The deposit form is required and must not be attached to the money order with staples or clips.
Do not mail anything other than the form and money order. No letters, photos, stamps, or cash - they will not be passed along.
Fees vary by facility. Check current fees in your ConnectNetwork account for the specific facility.
For county jails, verify the vendor. Do not assume ViaPath/ConnectNetwork works for your county jail - it is the IDOC state prison platform and only some county jails (like Marion County) use it.
