The Labette County Jail is a detention center located at 718 5th St Oswego, KS which is operated locally by the Labette County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Labette County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Oswego Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Kansas here.

The current Labette County Jail facility was built in 1983 with the capacity to hold 40 inmates. The facility was expanded in 1996 and currently has a bed capacity of 84 inmates and holds both local offenders as well as contract offenders for other jurisdictions. Each year the Labette County Jail processes close to 1000 offenders. In 2018, the Labette County Jail processed in 1,002 inmates, with an average daily population of 79 inmates.

The Labette County Jail provides a safe, secure and healthy detention of those ordered by the court to be held. It is the responsibility of all the Labette County Jail staff members to see that these means are attained. This is done with the highest degree of professionalism to ensure the respect of the community. Detention may be for both male and female inmates, pre-trial and post-trial inmates, and offenders serving either misdemeanor sentences or awaiting transportation to the Kansas Department of Corrections for felony sentences.

The Labette County Jail is responsible for the booking procedures of all county arrestees as well as municipal arrests for the cities of Altamont, Chetopa, Oswego and for the City of Parsons when needed. Processing offenders into the facility include basic booking measures which include photographs, livescan fingerprinting and collection of DNA for qualifying arrestees.

The Labette County Jail Staff consists of 1 Jail Corporal, 8 Correctional Officers, 2 Transport Deputies, 1 Court Security Deputy, and 2 Food Service Personnel.

Inmate Account Funds

Money orders can be mailed to inmates at the Labette County Jail, 718 5th Street, Oswego, KS 67356 or cash can be taken directly at the facility on Monday thru Friday, between 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and during visitation hours on Saturday. Inmate funds must be on the inmate account by 4:00 p.m. on Mondays for inmates to purchase commissary on Tuesday mornings. Inmates can purchase up to $65.00 each week in commissary items.

Inmate Phone System

The Inmate Phone System is provided by Securus Technologies. Inmates in general population are allowed to place phone calls from the facility between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 10:30 p.m., 7 days a week. Inmates can purchase prepaid phone cards from the commissary. There is a wide price disparity in the cost of the calls. Visitation Information

Labette County Jail​ -​ Visitation

Inmate visitation is held on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for Labette County Inmates and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for Contract Inmates.

Visitations are for immediate family only and require photo ID and proof of relationship prior to visiting.

Attorney/inmate visitation is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
