The Madison Co Jail is a detention center located at 823 Pinckney St Madison, FL which is operated locally by the Madison County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Madison County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Madison Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Florida here.

The Madison County Jail operates under the direct authority of the Madison County Sheriff, with its operations supervised by the Jail Administrator and the Detention staff. The primary goal of the Detention staff is to create and maintain a safe, secure, and humane environment for both the staff and inmates.

Upon arrival at the Madison County Jail, each inmate undergoes a comprehensive intake process. This includes property inventory (where monies, clothing, and miscellaneous items are documented), medical screening, and the formal booking procedure.

Individuals who have been arrested and do not bond out within the first twenty-four (24) hours must appear before a judge. During this initial appearance, conducted in person, by telephone, or by video, the judge informs the arrestee of the charges against them and sets the bond amount. Once the bond is established, inmates are given a reasonable opportunity to contact bondsmen or family members to arrange for their release.

Inmates who have completed the intake process are assigned to the general population and housed according to the nature of their charges. Cash-only deposits can be made at the Jail Lobby ATM. Money orders made out to the inmate's name are accepted through the mail, and funds can also be added to inmate accounts by visiting JailATM.com.

Canteen orders are placed on Sunday nights and are typically delivered by mid-week. This service allows inmates to purchase additional items for their personal use.

Inmates cannot receive incoming phone calls. However, they can initiate collect calls or use inmate-purchased calling cards from the housing units between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Inmate phone services are provided by Securus Technologies. To set up pre-paid calling accounts, you can contact Securus Technologies at 1-800-844-6591. To get the calls at the lowest rate, click here to see if you are eligible.

Inmates are allowed to send and receive letters, subject to limitations necessary to maintain order and security. Mail is delivered Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays. All incoming mail, except for legal or other privileged mail, is opened and inspected for contraband. Legal and privileged mail will be opened in the presence of the inmate.

Inmates are not permitted to receive packages, except for legal materials. Express mail requiring a receipt will not be accepted. Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate.

These procedures ensure that the Madison County Jail operates efficiently while maintaining the safety and security of inmates and staff alike.
