Located at 1107 Recharge Rd in York, NE, NCCW carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. NCCW offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

The NCCW traces its origins back to May 1920 when it was established as the "State Reformatory for Women" by the Nebraska Legislature. Originally, it comprised a two-story farmhouse used as a dormitory and later as the superintendent's residence. Over the years, the facility expanded with the addition of two three-story brick dormitories in 1924 and 1926, which are still in use today for various programs.

In 2004, NCCW embarked on a $15 million capital construction project, completing the first phase with the addition of a 76-bed general population living unit, a 48-bed residential substance abuse treatment unit, and other essential facilities like a dining room, staff offices, and a new water tower. The second phase, finished in 2009, involved remodeling program areas such as medical services, administrative offices, and education facilities to enhance operational efficiency.

NCCW has held accreditation from the American Correctional Association since 1981 and serves as Nebraska's sole secure correctional facility for adult women. With a capacity of 275 beds, it accommodates inmates across maximum, medium, and minimum custody levels, alongside court-ordered evaluators and county safekeepers.

Functioning as the diagnostic and evaluation center for newly committed female inmates, NCCW implements a comprehensive 30-day orientation program upon arrival. During this period, inmates undergo medical and mental health assessments while being introduced to available programming opportunities throughout their incarceration. Each inmate receives personalized classification and programming plans tailored to address individual needs and deficiencies.

Visitation during the orientation phase is restricted to one visit by immediate family members, enabling inmates to focus on their transition into the facility and orientation to its programs and services. This initial period sets the foundation for the inmates' journey within NCCW, guiding them toward rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society.

Inmate Locator

NCCW maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.

If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.

Ask The Inmate

Ask a former inmate questions at no charge. The inmate answering has spent considerable time in the federal prison system, state and county jails, and in a prison that was run by the private prison entity CCA. Ask your question or browse previous questions in response to comments or further questions of members of the InmateAid community.
