Located at 4005 Aumsville Hwy SE in Salem, OR, SCI carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. SCI offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
Santiam Correctional Institution (SCI) offers a range of programs and services geared towards rehabilitation and reintegration. These include cognitive programs, substance abuse treatment, education, transition support, health services, work assignments under Measure 17, and religious services. Established in 1946, SCI initially served as an annex to the Oregon State Hospital for mental health patients. Over the years, it underwent several transformations, evolving into a minimum custody pre-release center in 1977 and ultimately becoming SCI in 1990. In 1992, SCI and Mill Creek Correctional Facility were administratively combined under one superintendent for operational efficiency.
The institution provides inmates with various job opportunities and programs, with many labor-type jobs arranged through contracts with state agencies, local organizations, and private industry within a 60-mile radius of Salem, Oregon. In addition to work assignments, SCI offers cognitive, substance abuse, transition, and education programs. Situated on a 12-acre parcel, with nine acres enclosed by the perimeter fence, SCI remains committed to facilitating the rehabilitation and preparation for reintegration of its residents.
SCI maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
Thursday, Friday, and Monday: 6:00 to 9:15 PM.
Saturdays and Sundays: 2:15 – 3:30 PM, and 6:00 PM – 9:15 PM.
Holidays that fall on Fridays and Mondays, follow the Holiday schedule.
Oregon DOC general guidelines for regular visiting. If visiting an AIC in special housing, there are additional restrictions and prior scheduling is required. Contact your facility for assistance.
ATTENTION: All visitors must ensure they are on the adult in custody's approved visitor's list before scheduling an in-person visit. While the online system allows for scheduling regardless of visitor status, the visit will be denied at the institution if the visitor is not approved.
