The Portage Co Jail is a detention center located at 1500 Strongs Ave Stevens Point, WI which is operated locally by the Portage County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Portage County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Stevens Point Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Wisconsin here.

The Corrections Division of the Portage County Sheriff's Office is responsible for operating the Portage County Jail, the Portage County Juvenile Detention Facility, and all associated programs. This division ensures the security, health, welfare, and support of inmates under its care.

The Corrections Division employs 25 full-time Corrections Officers, five full-time Corrections Corporals, a Captain, a Sergeant, and a Juvenile Detention Superintendent. To provide meals for inmates, the Portage County Jail continues to use the food service vendor Summit, which staffs the kitchen and cooks the meals.

The jail has a comprehensive support team, including a full-time social worker assigned by Human Services, a part-time psychiatrist from Human Services, and a full-time teacher assigned to the Juvenile Detention Center by the Stevens Point School District. Medical care is provided part-time through a contract with Southern Health Partners, which supplies a doctor and a registered nurse (RN). Additionally, Mid-State Technical College offers High School Equivalency (HSED)/GED instruction on a part-time basis.

Furthermore, Portage County benefits from various services provided at no cost or on a volunteer basis. These services include religious programs, grandparent mentoring for youth, drug and alcohol treatment, and job coaching, all of which contribute to the rehabilitation and support of inmates within the Corrections Division.
