Kershaw CI is for State Prison offenders sentenced anywhere from one year to life by the State Court in the county where the charges were filed

Kershaw CI is a medium-security facility for male inmates. The institution prioritizes education and vocational training, offering programs in GED preparation, Work Keys, carpentry, upholstery, brick masonry, and small engine repair to equip inmates with valuable skills for their future.

Healthcare services at Kershaw CI encompass routine medical and dental care provided on-site, supplemented by 24-hour emergency care availability to ensure the well-being of inmates.

A diverse range of programs is available to inmates, including Prison Fellowship, Jumpstart, peer support, Prison Industries, Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous, religious education, character-based units, and anger management classes. These initiatives aim to promote personal growth, rehabilitation, and successful reintegration into society.

Kershaw CI actively engages with the community by serving as a video conferencing site for parole hearings in collaboration with the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services. Additionally, the institution hosts the Operation Behind Bars program, offering at-risk youth and adults the opportunity to tour the prison and gain insight into the factors contributing to criminal behavior and life inside prison.

Through its comprehensive approach to incarceration, Kershaw CI endeavors to address the needs of its inmate population, foster positive behavioral changes, and facilitate successful reentry into society upon release.

Kershaw CI maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.

If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.

Visitation is now open on Saturdays and Sundays for all institutions not on covid quarantine.

Visits must be scheduled ahead of time on the SCDC/GTL scheduler. If you have not created an account, click here to do so.

Visits will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be scheduled in 2-hour blocks. General population inmates with visitation privileges will be allowed four in-person visits per month.

Inmates may have one visit per weekend and up to four visits per month.

Inmates may have up to four visitors at a time, one of which must be an adult. Children of all ages can visit. Children age 10 and older must have a government-issued photo ID to visit. Children age nine and younger must show a long-form birth certificate.
