The Sutter Co Jail is a detention center located at 1077 Civic Center Blvd Yuba City, CA which is operated locally by the Sutter County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Sutter County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Yuba City Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

Sutter County's Main Jail facility, originally constructed in 1977, has undergone significant upgrades to enhance its capacity and functionality. These improvements include a major kitchen renovation, the addition of a 148-bed minimum-security facility, a 62-bed felony dorm, and a 52-bed maximum-security single-cell unit completed in 1999. The maximum-security unit is specifically designed to house high-risk individuals, providing a secure environment within the jail.

The facility is staffed by over 75 full and part-time employees, with the Jail Division Commander overseeing the diverse needs of the inmate population. The Corrections Section is responsible for traditional custody functions and providing security as bailiffs in the Sutter County Consolidated Courts for both criminal and family law cases. The primary role of the Jail Division is to manage the custody and care of inmates incarcerated in the Sutter County Jail.

In addition to custody services, the jail offers various inmate services and programs, including the Outside Work Release (OWR) program. This program allows inmates with minor offenses to work eight hours a day on community projects, providing a productive alternative to traditional incarceration. The OWR program is limited to those with minor charges and sentences of less than 180 days.

The facility is committed to maintaining safety and security while offering programs that support rehabilitation and reintegration into the community. The Jail Division's comprehensive approach ensures that inmates receive the necessary care, while also contributing positively to the surrounding community through work programs like OWR.

The Sutter County Jail offers a range of ancillary classes designed to support the rehabilitation and personal development of inmates. Among these programs is Moral Recognition Therapy (MRT), an evidence-based initiative that addresses anti-social attitudes and behaviors by training offenders to adopt more socially acceptable moral thinking and behavior. Another key program is Coping with Anger, which is tailored for individuals struggling with anger management. This evidence-based program involves eight group sessions focused on teaching and practicing skills to control anger, ultimately helping to reduce criminal activity.

The facility also provides Peer Relationships, a program that tackles issues of codependency, manipulation, and dependent relationships. This program, facilitated through Courage for Change's evidence-based interactive journaling, encourages inmates to confront these issues in a group setting. Inmates can also access educational opportunities through the GED program, which helps them prepare for the GED exam to achieve high school equivalency.

In addition to these programs, the jail offers Hepatitis C Education, providing crucial information on the medical implications, transmission, and prevention of Hepatitis C. Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous are well-established group therapy programs available to those struggling with substance abuse issues. Faith-based programs such as Christian Recovery and Liberty for Captives offer alternative methods for inmates to manage difficulties related to alcohol, drugs, anger, and domestic issues.

The Outside Work Release (OWR) program is another vital component of the jail's offerings, allowing inmates with minor offenses to work on community projects for eight hours a day. This program is restricted to those with minor charges and sentences of less than 180 days, offering a productive alternative to traditional incarceration.

Connect with your Inmate

The camp offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Alternatively, setting up an account through a third-party phone company may entail high fees per minute of usage. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.

Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. The Jail enforces this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.
