The Suwannee Co Jail is a detention center located at 305 Pine Ave SW Live Oak, FL which is operated locally by the Suwannee County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Suwannee County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Live Oak Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. The Suwannee County Jail serves as the primary booking and intake facility for all law enforcement agencies operating within Suwannee County. Under the authority of the Sheriff’s Office, along with collaboration from the Live Oak Police Department and other state law enforcement agencies, the dedicated staff of the Suwannee County Jail is responsible for the care, custody, and control of individuals arrested within the county.

Those held in the County Jail include individuals unable to post bail set by the courts, those awaiting trial after being transferred from other states or counties, and individuals found guilty and sentenced to serve less than one year in county jail. With an authorized capacity of 235 inmates, the jail accommodates males, females, and juveniles adjudicated as adults charged or sentenced for misdemeanor and felony crimes.

Accredited by the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission since 2004, the Suwannee County Jail adheres to rigorous standards ensuring the safety and security of both inmates and staff. Additionally, in compliance with Florida State Statute 775.13, individuals convicted of a felony are required to register in person with the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office within 48 hours of entering the county.

Registration hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, excluding holidays. The registration process involves providing pertinent information about the crime committed, fingerprinting, and photographing, typically taking about 30 minutes to complete. Photo identification is required for registration.

Furthermore, the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office operates an inmate work crew, providing valuable landscaping services to over thirty county buildings as part of their commitment to community engagement and rehabilitation efforts.

Visitor Sign-In

Visitors are required to report to the jail lobby at the commencement of their scheduled visitation slot and check in with the designated visitation officer. Visitors must arrive within the designated sign-in times to ensure access to the visitation area.

All visitors must be at least eighteen (18) years of age and must present valid photo identification upon each visit. Children are not permitted to be left unattended anywhere on the premises, including the lobby or vehicles. Personal belongings are restricted in the visitation area and limited to car keys and photo ID only. Purses and any other personal property must either be left at home or securely stored in the visitor's vehicle at their own risk; no items will be accepted by the visitation officer. Additionally, cell phones, food, beverages, and tobacco products are strictly prohibited within the visitation area.
