TCIX is for State Prison offenders sentenced anywhere from one year to life by the State Court in the county where the charges were filed
All prisons and jails have Security or Custody levels depending on the inmate’s classification, sentence, and criminal history. Please review the rules and regulations for State - medium facility.

Located at 1499 RW Moore Memorial Hwy in Only, TN, TCIX carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. TCIX offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
TCIX operates as a time-building prison with a focus on industrial activities. Housing male inmates with custody levels ranging from minimum to close, TCIX has an operating capacity of 1,574 inmates. Originally named the Turney Center for Youthful Offenders, the facility became operational in 1971 and underwent several name changes over the years, finally assuming its current name in 2008.
TCIX provides a range of evidence-based programs to address the rehabilitative needs of offenders. This includes access to Adult Basic Education (ABE) and vocational training programs such as Career Management for Success, Core Carpentry I & II, and Cosmetology. Additionally, TCIX offers behavioral health programs like cognitive behavior intervention, substance use group therapy, workforce development, and the young adult offender program.
Through partnerships with the community, TCIX offers various educational and vocational opportunities. These include associate and bachelor's degree programs through Nashville State Community College and Belmont University, respectively, as well as certifications in farming operations, building construction, and computer information technology through the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT). The Tennessee Rehabilitative Initiative in Correction (TRICOR) also provides job opportunities with transferrable skillsets, including work at the industry flooring plant.
TCIX operates an annex located approximately an hour southwest of the main compound in Waynesboro. The Turney Center Annex houses male, minimum custody offenders and offers specialized programs such as the boot camp program (SAIU) and the Probation/Parole Technical Violators Unit. These programs combine community service work, life skills, and substance use treatment to promote successful reintegration into society.
Furthermore, the annex provides a therapeutic community program, High School Equivalency exam prep courses (HiSET), and Adult Basic Education (ABE) to support offenders in their educational and personal development goals. Through these programs and partnerships, TCIX and its annex strive to equip offenders with the skills and resources necessary for a successful transition back into the community upon release.
TCIX maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
