Located at 1480 N 8000 W in Salt Lake City, UT, USCF carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. USCF offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

The Utah State Correctional Facility (USCF) officially commenced operations in July 2022, offering a contemporary setting spread across 200 acres, conveniently located just five miles west of the Salt Lake City International Airport. With a capacity to accommodate nearly 3,000 inmates, USCF represents a significant upgrade in correctional resources.

Recognizing the pivotal role of the environment in inmate rehabilitation, the Prison Relocation Team prioritized thoughtful design considerations for the new facility. Emphasizing multifunctionality, USCF integrates various services, including court and social support, within an environment conducive to recovery and rehabilitation.

In 2013, prompted by the need for updated infrastructure, the Utah Legislature and Governor’s Office embarked on the transition from the aging Draper prison to a modern facility. This decision aimed to replace outdated structures and enhance operational efficiency.

USCF's architectural features prioritize inmates' well-being, with floor-to-ceiling windows in several housing sections allowing ample natural light and scenic views of the surrounding mountains. The design further underscores the importance of programming and mental health care, exemplified by initiatives like the Mothers and Infants Program. This program offers incarcerated mothers the opportunity to bond with their infants within the facility, acknowledging the importance of maternal care in a supportive environment.

By amalgamating modern design principles with a focus on holistic inmate care, USCF signifies a significant step forward in the realm of correctional facilities, embodying the state's commitment to enhancing rehabilitation outcomes and fostering positive societal reintegration.
