The Venango County PA Prison is a detention center located at 1186 Elk St Franklin, PA which is operated locally by the Venango County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Venango County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Franklin Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Pennsylvania here.

The Prison has programs set up to help the inmate such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, Anger management, Mental Health counseling, the Prison Ministry, and G.E.D. tutoring and testing. Many of the inmates who come into the Prison have drug and/or alcohol problems and mental health issues. We can not always provide individual sessions to help these inmates, but do provide group sessions so that they can get some help if they so choose.

Some of the programs the Prison offers are listed below:

Anger / Stress Management
Instruction is given by a Mental Health/Mental Retardation Specialist. Inmates are instructed how to recognize anger, its origin, and how to constructively deal with it in an eight week course utilizing games and workbooks in a group therapy format. Inmates are given a Certificate of Completion at the conclusion of the course.

Community Service Programming
Is designated to assist county agencies and non-profit organizations with special work assignments. Inmates can offset any fines and costs that they owe and may also receive credit for time off of their minimum sentence if they are serving a sentence in the Prison.
