The Walker Co Jail is a detention center located at 105 S Duke St LaFayette, GA which is operated locally by the Walker County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Walker County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, LaFayette Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Georgia here.

The Jail is responsible for housing pre-trial inmates and those that are currently sentenced to the Department of Corrections. The Walker County Jail currently has a daily population averaging 200 inmates. The Sheriff, Jail Administrator, and Detention Staff are responsible for the operation and control of the Jail and consists of 35 employees. This includes the Medical Department and the contracted Food Service Company.

Upon arrival, the inmate must go through the booking process, which is the same for everyone regardless of the charge. Inmates will be given the opportunity to use the telephone once the booking process is completed to contact their family, attorney, and/or a bondsman. The Walker County Jail is a smoke-free facility, and any tobacco products, lighters, or matches are strictly prohibited inside the Jail.

All inmates have access to an on-staff Chaplain and church service programs, commissary services, television services, telephone services, mail services, and personal visitation services.

Detention Inmate Telephones - Inmates have access to a collect-call telephone system. The telephones in general population are turned on by an automatic timer at 9:00 AM and are turned off at 11:00 PM. Three-way calling is not permitted and will result in that number having a block placed on it. Phone calls generally last around 15 minutes and then will automatically disconnect after a warning.
  • Phone cards are available for purchase to contact numbers that don't accept collect calls. Order forms are passed out once weekly.
  • No incoming calls to Inmates are allowed. Staff will not pass messages to Inmates unless it is a verified emergency.
  • All calls from Inmate phones are subject to monitoring and recording.
Detention Inmate Mail - Please be advised that all mail from family and friends must be on postcards. Books and magazines must come from a publisher. You are allowed 3 photos and after that all letters and packages will be returned to sender. Legal mail is always accepted.

All incoming mail must be addressed as follows: Inmates Full Name (The name they are booked under) ID# (5 digit) (given to the Inmate at time of booking) Walker County Jail PO Box 866 LaFayette, GA 30728 All return addresses should include: Full Name (no initials, no nicknames) Complete mailing address City, State, Zip All mail should have a correct return address. Any mail not completely filled out (including mail with nicknames) will be returned to sender unopened. All incoming mail will be opened and inspected prior to delivery except legal mail correspondence from an attorney. Legal mail will be opened in the presence of the Inmate.

Limitations Photos – only 3 at a time. Must be printed on photo paper, no printer paper Books – only 3 at a time. Must be paperback Magazines – only 3 at a time. No nudity or explicit content. Staples removed. Any mail containing contraband could result in the loss of visitation and /or prosecution for the visitor and disciplinary actions and/or prosecution against the Inmate. Reading materials of explicit sexual nature, tattoos, pertaining to the purchase of assembling weapons or inciting persons to commit violent actions, are not permitted in the jail. We reserve the right not to accept anything that is inappropriate in a jail setting. Items deemed inappropriate may be destroyed.

Inmate to Inmate Mail - Inmates at the Walker County Jail may not receive mail from other inmates within our facility. Inmate to inmate mail poses a threat to the safety, security, and good order of this facility. Forwarding inmate to inmate mail by friends and family members is strictly prohibited. All inmate to inmate mail will be refused and documented. Inmates may, however, send and receive mail to/from inmates at other facilities.

Detention Commissary - Commissary services provide the means to purchase underclothing, food items, writing materials and personal hygiene items. Commissary is a privilege for the inmates and can be stopped at any time with little or no notice. Commissary can be revoked as a part of disciplinary action. Commissary is ordered by the inmates from the kiosk located in each cell block. All commissary orders must be saved in the system by Thursday night of each week by 11:00 p.m. Commissary orders will be delivered each Monday morning unless it falls on a holiday. Commissary orders cannot be changed or withdrawn once they have been submitted. No refunds, even if the inmate leaves prior to receiving their order. Only items on the approved list may be ordered. A $100.00 limit will be the maximum amount of an order. Inmates will not be extended credit. If money is not available in their account, the order will not be processed.

Inmates who are indigent may fill out a commissary request via kiosk for an indigent kit via the kiosk located in each cell block. The kit contains hygiene items as well as writing materials including postage stamps. The indigent kit can only be ordered every four weeks. A negative balance will be placed on the inmates account for future deposits.

Inmates are not allowed to transfer money from one inmate account to another.

Visitation Information

Walker County Detention Center - Visitation

Visitation with Inmates at the Walker County Detention Center is now provided through Securus Technologies. Video Visitation allows family members to visit their family members incarcerated at the Detention Center more on their schedule. You can choose to visit from the Detention Center, or you can visit from your home via the internet.

The current visitation schedule is as follows:

  • Onsite Visitation Monday-Friday 12:00PM - 4:30PM and 7:30PM - 9:00PM
  • Onsite Visitation Saturday-Sunday 10:00AM - 4:30PM and 7:30PM - 9:00PM
  • Anywhere Visitation Monday-Friday 7:30 PM - 10:30 PM
  • Anywhere Visitation Saturday-Sunday 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM and 7:30 PM-10:30 PM

Visits will be scheduled in twenty (20) minute increments.
