The White County IN Jail is a low/medium-security detention center located at 915 West Hanawalt Monticello, IN which is operated locally by the White County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. White County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Monticello Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals. You can see all the arrest records for Indiana here.

The White County Jail is used to house state prisoners, both male and female. A large majority of them are classified as “pre-trial detainees”. It is hereby acknowledged that pre-trial detainees retain most of their individual rights afforded to them by the constitution. Punishment of pre-trial detainees is out of harmony with the 14th amendment to the constitution, which forbids the deprivation of liberty without due process of law. The physical facility of the White County Jail may somewhat limit the rights of inmates, but whenever possible the fullest rights will be afforded to each inmate.
