Dodge Correctional Institution (DCI) is the central reception center for adult male inmates entering Wisconsin's prison system, playing a crucial role in promoting community safety and ensuring institution security while providing humane treatment. Collaborating with the Bureau of Offender Classification and Movement, DCI conducts comprehensive assessments to determine inmates' program needs, custody levels, and placement within the correctional system. This process also includes orientation to the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, aiding inmates in adjusting to their sentences and correctional environments.

In fulfilling its mission, DCI carries out several key responsibilities. These include receiving and assessing inmates upon admission, providing centralized transportation services, ensuring safety through supervision, offering various programs to facilitate constructive inmate participation and reintegration, monitoring institution operations, and enforcing relevant statutes and regulations. Moreover, DCI administers a diverse workforce and ensures the provision of healthcare and psychological services consistent with professional standards.

Established in 1978 with subsequent expansions, including a significant one in 1993, DCI has evolved to accommodate the changing needs of Wisconsin's correctional system. Initially serving both male and female inmates, DCI transitioned to exclusively receiving male inmates in 2004, with female reception moving to Taycheedah Correctional Institution. Additionally, DCI functions as the central medical center for the division, delivering comprehensive healthcare services to male inmates.
