Sending Mail, Photos, and Packages to an Inmate in Wyoming

Send mail to a Wyoming WDOC inmate. Letters go directly to the facility. Must be on approved visitor list to deposit money. Find your inmate at wdoc-loc.wyo.gov.

Wyoming DOC (WDOC) sends personal mail directly to each facility. There is no centralized scanning address for general correspondence. Wyoming is one of the smaller state prison systems in the country - five facilities, approximately 2,500 people in state custody.

The WDOC uses "inmates" and "offenders" interchangeably in its materials.

Sending mail - letters and correspondence

Mail goes directly to the facility where the inmate is housed. Include the inmate's full name, WDOC inmate number, and the correct facility address. Include a full return address.

Find an inmate's WDOC number and current facility: wdoc-loc.wyo.gov (search by inmate number or first two letters of last name)

For questions: WDOC Central Office, (307) 777-7208

Mail rules and content

Incoming general mail may be opened, inspected for contraband, and read. Legal and privileged mail is handled differently - it may be opened only in the presence of the inmate, and is not read unless staff has reason to believe it is other than a legal document.

Legal mail must be clearly marked "Legal Mail" on the envelope and must indicate it is from the inmate's attorney of record or from a qualifying legal entity (courts, public officials, etc.).

Photos may be included in personal mail unless facility policy restricts them. Contact the specific facility to confirm current photo rules, as policy may vary. WDOC policy generally permits incoming photographs that are not pornographic.

For a full list of mail restrictions, consult WDOC Policy and Procedure #5.401 (Inmate Mail).

Adult Community Corrections centers

WDOC contracts three Adult Community Corrections (ACC) centers in Casper, Cheyenne, and Gillette. Contact each center directly for mail and visitation rules. These are transition/reentry facilities with different procedures than the five main institutions.

Wyoming county jails

Wyoming has 23 county detention facilities, each operated by the county sheriff. These are separate from WDOC and have their own mail and deposit rules. If an inmate does not appear in the WDOC offender locator, they may be in a county jail. Contact the relevant county sheriff's office directly.
