No. A release date cannot be calculated until a sentence has been imposed.

The release date is derived directly from the length of the sentence. Without knowing how many months or years a judge has ordered, there is no number to work from. Good time credits, which reduce the time served, are also calculated as a percentage of the sentence length, so those cannot be determined in advance either.

What you can do before sentencing is understand the range of possible outcomes. If you know the charges and the applicable sentencing guidelines, an attorney can give you a realistic range of what the sentence might look like and what the corresponding release dates would be under different scenarios. That is not a release date, but it can help with planning.

Once the sentence is handed down, the calculation becomes straightforward. For federal sentences, 85% of the imposed time is the baseline. For state sentences, the applicable good time rules vary by state. A case manager or counselor at the facility can provide the official projected release date once the inmate is processed into the system after sentencing.
