The FCI-Sheridan is a federal prison located at 27072 Ballston Rd in Sheridan, OR. This federal medium security prison is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to hold inmates who have been convicted to and sentenced for a federal crime through the US Department of Justice (DOJ).

The Federal Correctional Institution, Sheridan (FCI Sheridan) is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates in Oregon. Opened in 1989, it is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. The facility also includes a detention center housing male offenders and an adjacent minimum-security satellite prison camp also for male offenders.

FCI Sheridan is located in northwestern Oregon in Sheridan.

Background: FCI Sheridan houses approximately 1900 total inmates. This includes the main medium security detention facility and a smaller minimum security prison camp. The facility is designed in a style that resembles college campuses that are meant to foster rehabilitation. Buildings housing inmates have white exteriors with red-colored roofs. The concrete, two-story structures are modeled after dormitories. The factory buildings have roof lines that are meant to mimic the area's agricultural architecture. The prison industry (UNICOR) was a wood shop for the manufacturing of furniture until being closed down in 2006. Furniture included desks and office chairs. Inmates at the minimum-security camp can study to work as landscape gardeners and personal fitness trainers after their release from prison. This is the only federal prison in Oregon.

Notable inmates include former FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives Leslie Rogge now serving a 65-year sentence for bank robbery. Robert Gomez currently serving a 21-year sentence for orchestrating the Miracle cars scam. Earth Liberation Front member Tre Arrow was released in 2009 after serving 78 months for arson. Russell Cline the founder of Orion International, a foreign currency trading firm; pleaded in 2004 to mail fraud and money laundering for misappropriating customer funds to pay for personal expenses and pay others who participated in the scheme. Stacey Koon the former LAPD sergeant; convicted in 1993 of federal civil rights violations in connection with the 1992 beating of Rodney King; his acquittal in state court sparked the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

Housing: Inmates are housed in two-person cells. There are four housing units.

Health Services: Sick call, dental call, physical examinations, emergency care, medications, and testing for infectious diseases are available at all the facilities. Inmates are assigned to a specific health care provider who treats them for the duration of their stay. Emergency medical care is available 24 hours a day.

Psychology Services: A psychologist is available at all facilities to diagnose, provide therapy services, and evaluate prisoners. Regular group therapy classes include anger management, stress management, HIV/AIDS awareness, and criminal thinking.

Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP): FCI Sheridan offer a Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). Drug Education programs, the Non-Residential Drug Abuse Program (NR-DAP), and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) are also available.

Education Services: FCI Sheridan provides GED and English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) programs to inmates. Parenting and Adult Continuing Education (ACE) programs are also available. High school diplomas and post-secondary programs are available through paid correspondence programs.

Advanced Occupational Education: FCI Sheridan offers advanced occupational education programs in Basic Woodworking, Building Trades, Desktop Publisher, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Word 2, and Quickbooks.

Vocational Training: FCI Sheridan offers vocational training in Google Sketchup, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint/Publisher, Microsoft Word, Personal Fitness Trainer, and Quickbooks.

Apprenticeship: FCI Sheridan offers apprenticeships in Baking, Barber, Building Maintenance, Cabinet Worker, Call Center Clerk, Cook, Landscape Management Technician, Office Management Clerk, Plumber, Sanitation Technician, Solar Technician, and Wood Turning Lathe Operator. The camp offers apprenticeships in Career Clerk, Dental Assistant, Farmworker, and Landscape Technician. Both facilities offer apprenticeships in Electrical, HVAC, Personal Fitness Trainer, and Teacher Aide.

Library Services: A leisure and law library at FCI Sheridan are available for inmate use. The leisure library offers fiction and nonfiction books, magazines, and newspapers. The law library contains a variety of legal reference materials for use in preparing legal papers. Reference materials include the United States Code Annotated, Federal Reporter, Supreme Court Reporter, Bureau of Prisons program statements, institution supplements, indexes, and other legal materials. Most of these are available on the TRULINCS Electronic Law Library. The law library also houses typewriters and a copy machine.

UNICOR: The FCI Sheridan UNICOR facility produces electronics and plastics.

Commissary: The Commissary Card is also an identification card. If an inmate leaves the housing unit, they must have the Commissary/I.D. Card in their possession. The monthly spending limit is $360. Inmates can purchase a wide variety of items from the commissary. Inmates can only shop once a week in the commissary on their designated shopping day.

Recreation Services: A wide variety of recreational activities are offered at FCI Sheridan. Sports and games are offered, including softball, flag football, soccer, volleyball, handball, racquetball, and basketball. Fitness equipment, a hobby shop, and a central Recreation Area with ping pong tables, exercise equipment, and band room are also available at FCI Sheridan and the camp. In the main prison, games (e.g. dominoes) are on the unit, and there is also an Inmate Photo Program.

Commissary List - In 1930 the Department of Justice authorized and established a Commissary at each Federal institution. The Commissary provides a bank type account for your money & for the procurement of articles not issued regularly as part of the institution administration. Funds deposited by your family, friends, or other sources are stored in your commissary account that we maintain.

Covid Visitation Information

We remind all visitors to carefully review our special visiting procedures during the COVID pandemic, and also remind all visitors to observe applicable state and local COVID travel restrictions in planning your visit to the institution.

Please call 503-843-4442 prior to your visit to get the latest updates, time changes or visitation cancellations.

All visitors will be temperature checked with results annotated at the screening site prior to entrance. All staff working the screening site will be in proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Visitors will be in-processed on a first come first serve basis, adhering to social-distancing requirements. If distancing requirements cannot be met, visitors may be asked to wait outside for systematic in-processing to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Inmates on quarantine or isolation status will not be permitted visits - it will be the visitor's responsibility to check with the institution prior to arrival to ensure the scheduled visit can still take place.

The visiting room is designed to maximize social distancing, with a minimum of six feet between persons. Inmates are permitted two visitors per visit. To ensure equal opportunities, the frequency of visits determines any termination. Appropriate face coverings are mandatory for all inmates and visitors, all visitors wearing a mask will be provided one by the institution, theirs will be secured in the lockers in the lobby. No physical contact, photographs, food, or drink is permitted. A hand hygiene station, including alcohol-based hand sanitizer, is available at all visiting entrances and exits. Orderlies are assigned to each visitation room and will continually sanitize all touch surfaces, restrooms, etc.
