Florida: Resources for ICE Detainees

Florida has eight ICE detention facilities and is one of the most active immigration enforcement states in the country. Americans for Immigrant Justice (AI Justice) provides free detention legal services statewide. Know where detainees are held, how to find them, and how to get help. Updated June 2026.

This guide is for people detained by ICE in Florida and for their families. Florida has multiple ICE detention facilities across the state, all counties with 287(g) agreements, and one of the highest volumes of immigration enforcement activity in the country. Gov. Ron DeSantis has actively partnered with federal enforcement - under 'Operation Tidal Wave,' the state reported 10,000+ arrests transferred to DHS in 2025 alone. Eight facilities are listed by ICE in Florida as of June 2026, though the status of the Everglades Detention Facility ('Alligator Alcatraz') was uncertain - possible closure was reported in May 2026. Americans for Immigrant Justice (AI Justice) is the only statewide nonprofit law firm in Florida providing free full deportation defense, and their detention hotline received over 13,000 calls in 2025. Rapid Response Hotline for ICE raids and arrests in Florida: 1-888-600-5762 (English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese). Last verified: June 2026.

Step 1: Find Your Family Member - Right Now

ICE Online Detainee Locator: locator.ice.gov

You need: the person's full legal name, date of birth, and country of birth - OR their A-Number (Alien Registration Number). The locator shows people currently in ICE custody and those released within the last 60 days. Important: AI Justice and other advocates report that ICE's detainee locator has become less reliable as overcrowding increases - people can 'disappear' for days as the system struggles to update. If the locator shows nothing within 24-48 hours, use the phone numbers below and call the county jail where the arrest occurred.

ICE Detention Reporting and Information Line: 1-888-351-4024 (toll-free)

EOIR Immigration Court Case Status: 1-800-898-7180

ICE Miami Field Office (covers South Florida): Miami.Outreach@ice.dhs.gov | (954) 236-4900

ICE Jacksonville Field Office (covers North Florida): (904) 288-4645

Florida Rapid Response Hotline (for raids, arrests, emergencies): 1-888-600-5762 - Staffed by the coalition of Americans for Immigrant Justice, Florida Immigrant Coalition, Community Justice Project, Catholic Legal Services, WeCount!, and ACLU of Florida. Available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and Portuguese.

AI Justice Detention Hotline: (786) 454-8554 - Live answers Monday through Thursday, 9-11:30 AM and 1:30-4 PM ET.

County jails: If a family member was recently arrested, they may still be in a county jail under an ICE detainer before transfer to a federal ICE facility. Most Florida counties have online inmate search databases through their sheriff's office websites. Search by county name plus 'inmate search.' ICE has 48 hours to take someone into federal custody from a county jail after a detainer. Contact a lawyer during that window - options are strongest while the person is still in local custody.

Step 2: Where ICE Detainees Are Held in Florida

Florida ICE's website lists eight facility locations as of June 2026. The status of the Everglades Detention Facility was uncertain at time of writing - a June 2026 closure was reported. Verify current facility status at ice.gov or by calling the Miami ICE Field Office before traveling to any facility.

Step 3: Get Legal Help - Act Immediately

Florida has one of the strongest detention legal aid ecosystems in the country, led by Americans for Immigrant Justice. Contact AI Justice first for any detention case in Florida.

Americans for Immigrant Justice (AI Justice) - Primary Detention Resource

aijustice.org | Detention Hotline: (786) 454-8554

Live answers: Monday-Thursday, 9-11:30 AM and 1:30-4 PM ET

AI Justice is the only statewide nonprofit law firm in Florida providing free full deportation defense. Their detention team serves all ICE detention facilities in Florida. In 2025, their detention hotline responded to over 13,000 calls. They provide free consultations, legal representation, Know Your Rights presentations inside facilities, and advocacy. Their offices are in Miami-Dade, Broward, Orlando, Tampa Bay, and the Treasure Coast.

To request help for a detained person: fill out the intake form at aijustice.org or call the detention hotline. They cannot assist if the intake form is incomplete.

Baker Legal Assistance Program - Baker County Specific

For detainees at Baker County Detention Center: contact the ACLU of Florida at aclufl.org or call the ACLU Florida Detention Database complaint hotline: (786) 363-3095. Law clinics from FSU, UF, and University of Miami also serve Baker County. This specialized program was launched in response to over 100 documented complaints from that facility.

Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC)

floridaimmigrant.org | Hotline: 1-888-600-5762

FLIC is a statewide coalition that provides free legal screenings and referrals. While FLIC is not a law firm, they can provide referrals to legal help for detained people at Krome, Broward Transitional Center, and Glades County Jail. Text or call the hotline.

Rapid Response Alliance Hotline: 1-888-600-5762

This coalition hotline - operated jointly by AI Justice, FLIC, Community Justice Project (CJP), Catholic Legal Services, WeCount!, and ACLU of Florida - is the primary emergency number for ICE raids, arrests, and detention situations in Florida. Available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and Portuguese. Call immediately when an arrest occurs.

ACLU of Florida

aclufl.org | Florida Detention Database complaint hotline: (786) 363-3095

The ACLU of Florida maintains a Florida Detention Database of documented complaints from all Florida ICE facilities. Contact them if a family member experiences abuse, denial of medical care, or other rights violations inside any Florida ICE facility. ACLU Florida also provides Know Your Rights materials in multiple languages.

Community Justice Project (CJP)

communityjusticeproject.com - Miami-based civil rights legal organization active in immigration detention work and rapid response.

EOIR Pro Bono List

ICE detention facilities in Florida are required to post pro bono legal service lists in housing units. Ask your family member to request the list and use free calls to contact legal help. Call AI Justice's hotline from inside the facility if possible.

Immigration Advocates Network

immigrationadvocates.org - National searchable directory; search by Florida city or county.

Step 4: Bond - How to Get Someone Released

Bond allows a detained person to be released from ICE custody while their immigration case continues in court. Florida has active immigration courts in Miami and Orlando. Not everyone is eligible - mandatory detention applies in some cases. Florida's all-county 287(g) participation has expanded the categories of people subject to mandatory holds. Have an attorney evaluate bond eligibility immediately.

Important caution: Advocates in Florida warn that paying a criminal bond for a county charge can trigger immediate ICE transfer to a federal facility. If someone is in county jail with both criminal charges and an ICE detainer, consult an immigration attorney before paying any bond.

Bond Posting Locations - Five ICE ERO Offices in Florida (Monday-Friday, 9 AM-3 PM):

Miami (Krome): 18201 SW 12th Street, Miami, FL 33194 | (305) 207-2001 - Bond can be posted here in person. This is the only Florida ICE facility that also accepts bond directly.

Miramar: 2805 SW 145th Avenue, Miramar, FL 33027 | (954) 843-5800

Jacksonville: 13077 Veveras Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32258 | (904) 288-4645

Orlando: 9495 Delegates Drive, Orlando, FL 32837 | (407) 480-5246

Tampa: 5524 West Cypress Street, Tampa, FL 33607 | (813) 637-3048

Payment: Money order, cashier's check, or certified check payable to 'Department of Homeland Security.' For bonds over $10,000, a single cashier's check or certified check is required. Bring the detainee's full name, A-Number, and bond order.

A licensed immigration bond agent can post bond electronically for 2%-10% of the bond amount, avoiding travel to an ICE ERO office.

Step 6: Florida's Enforcement Context and Your Rights

Florida is one of the most active immigration enforcement states in the country. Governor DeSantis has directed state law enforcement to cooperate fully with ICE and has deployed state resources to support federal enforcement. All 67 Florida county sheriffs have or are participating in 287(g) agreements under state law - meaning any encounter with a county deputy can become an immigration enforcement encounter. ICE detainer requests in Florida have surged dramatically since January 2025.

The ACFL Florida Detention Database has documented systemic problems across Florida facilities - denial of medical care, denial of legal access, harassment, and unsanitary conditions. Baker County in particular has over 100 documented complaints. Contact AI Justice and the ACLU of Florida immediately if a family member reports any of these conditions.

Do not sign Voluntary Departure without an attorney:

ICE may pressure detained people to sign Voluntary Departure documents. Signing voluntarily can affect your ability to return to the United States and waive important legal rights. Say clearly: 'I will not sign anything without speaking with a lawyer first.' Call AI Justice at (786) 454-8554.

Key rights every detainee has:

The right to speak with an attorney. Free calls to listed legal service providers are required by ICE standards.

The right to a bond hearing before an immigration judge (unless subject to mandatory detention).

The right to be free from physical, sexual, and verbal abuse.

The right to access medical and mental health care.

The right to access a law library and legal materials.

The right to practice your religion.

The right to file a grievance if your rights are violated.

The right to communicate with your home country's consulate (free calls required).
