The inmates housed at Calhoun State Prison located at 27823 W Main St in Morgan, GA are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Calhoun State Prison is a medium-security institution that houses about 1,650 adult male inmates and is housed in either a cell with a triple bunked bed or a cell with a double-bunked bed. In addition, inmates can also be held in one of eight open dormitories. If the inmate has disciplinary issues or safety concerns they can be held in segregation which contains isolated single cells.. Inmates can receive education while incarcerated by taking GED courses, adult basic education classes, learn to read, or participate in correspondence courses. Inmates can also get a variety of training in the following vocational skills: Horticulture, barbering, building maintenance, grounds keeping, clerk, sanitation, forklift operator, and culinary services.

MISSION - To protect the general public, staff and offenders by providing a safe and humane living environment for medium and minimum security offenders through utilizing Principles of Effective Intervention: Risk Principle, Needs Principle, Responsivity Principle, Treatment Principle and Program Integrity. Primarily targeting offenders' criminal thinking, substance abuse, education and employment needs.

HOUSING - Consists of nine housing units with 24 triple-bunked cells each and 24 double-bunked cells each. Eight open dormitories with a total of 480 beds. There are 95 segregation/isolation cells. This facility also houses a C.E.R.T. Team and a Fire Station.
