Established in 1889 and situated near Eddyville in Lyon County, KSP is the Department's oldest and sole maximum-security facility, housing Kentucky's death row inmates. With a population of 856 and a staff of 348, KSP is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of security and operational efficiency.

KSP maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.

If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.

Visitation Information

To schedule an appointment to visit, please email KSP.Visits@ky.gov. All visits must be requested via email by the inmate visitor. The visitor will need to schedule any visit at least seven days in advance. In-person visiting requests must include the visitor's name, date of birth, and social security number. The request must also include the date they wish to visit and if the visit will be in-person or virtual. The visitation time will be assigned based on availability and approval.

Visitation Schedule: In-person and Virtual visits will be conducted at KSP based on the following schedule:

In-Person:
5CH - First Tuesday and Wednesday of month; In-person: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
4CH - Second Tuesday and Wednesday of month; In-person: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
6CH GP - Third Tuesday and Wednesday of the month; In-person: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
SSU (Death Row) - Fourth Tuesday and Wednesday of the month; In-person or Video: 8:00 - 10:30 a.m.
PC - Fourth Tuesday and Wednesday of the month; In-person or Video: 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
OSQ - Fourth Tuesday and Wednesday of the month; In-person or Video: 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

All in-person requests shall be made via email to KSP.Visits@ky.gov and shall be made at least seven days in advance. All video visits are scheduled through Securus.
