Located at 6925 Hwy 74 in St. Gabriel, LA, EHCC carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. EHCC offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.

EHCC is the second-largest state prison in Louisiana, incarcerating over 1,500 adult males and serving as a diagnostics and classification center for approximately 400 inmates.

EHCC offers a variety of educational programs aimed at improving literacy, basic adult education, and preparing offenders for the High School Equivalency (HSE) test. Additionally, vocational training programs in welding, carpentry, and air conditioning and refrigeration are offered in partnership with Baton Rouge Community College. Offenders can also earn certifications such as NCCER Module Credits and OSHA General Industry Certification.

The prison operates various work opportunities including kitchen duties, chemical plant work, and community work crews, providing valuable job skills and instilling a strong work ethic in the offender population.

EHCC's mission is to maintain a controlled correctional environment while providing basic services such as food, clothing, healthcare, and shelter to all incarcerated individuals. The facility offers a range of assessment, diagnostic, educational, medical, mental health, and social programs, fostering respect for both inmates and staff. Additionally, EHCC emphasizes restitution and reentry initiatives to compensate individuals and communities affected by crime.

Inmate Locator

EHCC maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.

If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.

Visitation Information

EHCC ensures imprisoned individuals have the opportunity to receive visits from approved visitors, with limitations based on scheduling, space, and security considerations. Special visits may be arranged for immediate family members if the imprisoned person's stay exceeds thirty days, with requests submitted in writing by the imprisoned individual. Requests should include detailed information about the visitors and must be received by the Unit Manager by the Tuesday preceding the desired visit weekend.

Once approved, individuals on the visiting list can include up to ten people without restrictions on their relationship or gender. Immediate family members are permitted to visit during the first thirty days, but after this period, they must be on the approved visiting list. Visitors must complete questionnaires within thirty days of the imprisoned person's arrival to maintain their visiting privileges. Attorney visits are scheduled through the assistant warden for Security, while special visits are limited, particularly for extended visits involving long-distance travel.

All visitors undergo criminal history checks, and falsification of information results in denial of visitation rights. Individuals can only be on the visiting list of one imprisoned person unless they are immediate family members of multiple incarcerated individuals. Imprisoned individuals found guilty of contraband possession related to drugs may face "No Contact" visiting status, and visitors caught bringing contraband face arrest and permanent termination of visitation privileges.

Ask The Inmate

Ask a former inmate questions at no charge. The inmate answering has spent considerable time in the federal prison system, state and county jails, and in a prison that was run by the private prison entity CCA. Ask your question or browse previous questions in response to comments or further questions of members of the InmateAid community.
