Nevada DOC's Offender Feature Data Search allows searches by NDOC number or name. Nevada's correctional system reflects the state's unique population distribution - highly concentrated in Clark County (Las Vegas) with sparse population elsewhere.
The official inmate search is available at ofdsearch.doc.nv.gov. Federal inmates from Nevada are often housed at FCI Herlong (CA) or FCI Victorville (CA).
Visitation in Nevada Facilities
Nevada DOC visitor approval requires a visitor application. Processing takes 2 - 4 weeks. Ely State Prison is one of the most remote death row facilities in the US - 4+ hours from Las Vegas, nearly 5 hours from Reno. Video visitation strongly recommended for Ely families.
Always confirm visiting schedules directly with the facility before traveling. Find specific visitation rules on each facility's page in our Nevada prison directory.
Sending Mail to Nevada Inmates
Nevada DOC mail requires the NDOC number. Nevada has transitioned most facilities to JPay digital mail - physical mail is scanned centrally and delivered electronically. Your physical letter may not be handled as a physical object at the receiving facility.
InmateAid delivers letters and photos, postcards, and magazines to Nevada facilities. Want to receive letters without sharing your home address? Our Letters From Inmates service scans and delivers inmate mail to your account.
Phone Calls from Nevada Facilities
Nevada is not currently among the states that offer free inmate phone calls. GTL/ViaPath holds the Nevada DOC contract.
Following the FCC's Martha Wright-Reed Order (effective April 6, 2026), per-minute rates for inmate calls are now federally capped at state and federal facilities. Find current carrier and rate information on each facility's page in our Nevada prison directory.
Sending Money to Nevada Inmates
Commissary funds let inmates purchase approved items from the facility store. Primary money transfer options for Nevada:
- JPay (primary - digital mail and deposits)

- Lobby kiosks
See our Send Money guide or navigate to the specific facility page for current provider information.

Frequently Asked Questions About Nevada Prisons
Where is Ely State Prison and how do I visit?
Ely State Prison is in White Pine County in eastern Nevada - about 240 miles north of Las Vegas on US-93 (roughly 4 hours) and about 320 miles east of Reno (nearly 5 hours). It is genuinely one of the most remote major prisons in the United States, with no commercial airport nearby and limited services in the town of Ely. Nevada's death row is at Ely. Because of the extreme distance, video visitation through GTL ConnectNetwork is strongly recommended for most families. If you plan an in-person visit, book lodging in Ely well in advance and call the facility at 775-289-8800 to confirm current procedures and availability before making the drive.
What is High Desert State Prison?
High Desert State Prison is Nevada's largest correctional facility, located in Indian Springs about 45 miles northwest of Las Vegas on US-95 - about 45 minutes from the Strip with no mountain passes. The facility houses close-security inmates and sits adjacent to Southern Desert Correctional Center, which is a completely separate facility sharing the same general area. HDSP is one of the most accessible major state prisons for Las Vegas-area families. All visitors must be pre-approved through the NDOC visitor registration process - contact HDSP directly for current visiting schedules and procedures.
Does Nevada have free prison phone calls?
No - Nevada has not eliminated phone call fees. GTL/ViaPath holds the Nevada DOC contract. The FCC's April 2026 rate caps apply to interstate calls from Nevada state facilities, reducing costs from historical highs, but calls are not free. Nevada's prison population is concentrated near Las Vegas and Reno - two major cities - which means many families have reasonable driving access for visits rather than relying solely on phone contact. Set up a GTL ConnectNetwork prepaid account for calls. For Clark County Detention Center or Washoe County Detention, check those facilities' specific phone platforms separately.
Does Nevada scan prison mail?
Yes - Nevada DOC has largely transitioned to JPay's digital mail system at most state facilities. Physical mail is received at a central scanning location, opened, scanned, and the digital image is delivered to the inmate's tablet. Your physical letter does not reach the inmate at most facilities. This is important to understand before sending anything of personal value - handwritten letters, cards, and children's drawings all arrive as digital images rather than physical objects. For the most reliable delivery, submit digital mail directly through the JPay platform, which bypasses the physical mail scanning process entirely.
What is the NDOC number?
Every Nevada state inmate is assigned a unique NDOC number when they enter state custody. It must appear on all mail and is required for the Nevada DOC offender search at ofdsearch.doc.nv.gov. Find it by searching the inmate's full legal name. Clark County Detention Center and Washoe County Detention each have their own booking numbers entirely separate from NDOC numbers - county detainees don't have state numbers. Once assigned at state intake, the number is permanent for the sentence regardless of facility transfers.
How do I send money to someone at Florence McClure Women's?
Florence McClure Women's Correctional Center is Nevada's primary women's facility on the east side of Las Vegas. JPay is the primary money transfer platform for Nevada DOC facilities including FMWCC. Create a JPay account at jpay.com, find the inmate by name or NDOC number, and transfer funds. Funds typically post within 1 - 3 business days. In-person lobby kiosks are also available at the facility for cash deposits. Never mail cash. If a transfer is delayed, contact JPay customer service first, then FMWCC's business office - and document everything in writing.
