The GCF, situated in Greene County and operated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, commenced operations in 1984, accommodating 1,600 inmates at medium security, including 171 in a maximum security unit. Adjacent to Coxsackie Correctional Facility, originally established in 1935, Greene houses challenging offenders in a fifteen-bed special housing unit or a 200-bed isolation unit known as S-Block.
Inmates at Greene CF may participate in the Correctional Industries program, offering customer service for the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, with eligibility contingent on possessing a high school diploma or GED and having over a year left until parole eligibility. Additionally, vocational training opportunities include building and custodial maintenance, horticulture, masonry, printing, small engine repair, painting, computers, commercial arts, HVAC, and electrical systems. The facility also offers alcohol and substance abuse treatment for inmates.
Encouragement for educational advancement is provided to incarcerated individuals, who can pursue adult basic education or a GED. Moreover, inmates have access to college courses offered in partnership with nearby Siena College, enabling them to earn credits towards a Bachelor's Degree.
Greene CF maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
