Located at 286 Woodland Dr in Marienville, PA, SCI Forest carefully assigns inmates based on their custody level, considering factors like criminal history. SCI Forest offers diverse educational and vocational programs aimed at equipping offenders for successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Through these initiatives, inmates gain skills and confidence, fostering personal growth and resilience.
In 1998, Forest County Commissioners sought to revitalize the area by attracting a state-run corrections facility, eventually leading to the establishment of SCI Forest in Marienville. Despite challenges and delays, including design modifications, the 64-acre compound with 26 buildings, including 11 housing units, became operational on October 28, 2004. Accredited by the American Correctional Association in 2006, SCI Forest has maintained its accreditation every three years since then.
Spanning 57 acres within the perimeter and 202 acres outside, the facility features various structures, including housing units, dining halls, a hospital, educational and religious facilities, warehouses, and administrative buildings. Notably, it includes a Special Needs Unit and recreational areas for inmates. With an inmate population reflecting an average age of 36, the facility employs 666 full-time staff members.
Academic and vocational education programs offer opportunities up to the GED level, covering fields such as building maintenance, HVAC, business practices, auto technology, barbering, masonry, drafting, electricity, and construction trades. Inmate programs address diverse needs, including sex offender treatment, re-entry preparation, substance abuse therapy, offense-related behavior, and healthcare education.
Notably, SCI Forest hosts the Pups Assisting Wounded Soldiers (PAWS) program, where inmates socialize and train dogs from the Elk County Humane Society. These dogs undergo 12 weeks of basic training, and some are screened for specialized work by Wags 4 Warriors, benefiting veterans with traumatic brain injuries and PTSD.
In collaboration with local non-profits, the Community Work Program provides valuable services to the community. Additionally, through the PennDOT Agility Program, inmates engage in tasks like mowing and painting at PennDOT facilities in exchange for surface treatments for SCI Forest's infrastructure.
SCI Forest maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
In-person visitation is available at all DOC facilities. Some visiting rules have changed, so please be sure to read this entire page and check out the updated Visiting Rules page, as well as the Visitor Guide before scheduling an in-person visit with an incarcerated loved one. This page also contains instructions on how to schedule a no-cost video visit.
All in-person visits must be scheduled online at least three days in advance.
Video visitation is a free service offered to inmates and authorized visitors. All inmates are eligible to participate. Rules for video visits are generally the same as those for in-person visits at a facility. All non-legal video visits are monitored and recorded. Please review our detailed Visitor Guide prior to your visit.
