My Son Was Medically Unable to Visit: Who Do I Contact?

My visit with my son was turned away because he was medically unable to receive visitors. How do I find out how he is doing??

Call the facility immediately and ask to speak with his counselor. That is your first and most direct contact. Explain that you were turned away from visitation for medical reasons and that you need to know he is being cared for. Counselors deal with concerned family members regularly and can at minimum confirm his status.

If you cannot reach the counselor, ask for his case manager or the unit team secretary. Either of them can access basic information about his current situation. If that path does not get you anywhere, the facility chaplain is another option, and chaplains often have access across units including medical housing.

If all of those channels fail, call the warden's office directly. As his mother, you have standing to ask for a welfare check on your child, and presenting it calmly and persistently will get you the information you need. You are not asking for private medical details, you are asking whether your son is being looked after. That is a reasonable request that facilities are accustomed to handling.
