Commissary lists for federal prisons are available on InmateAid. Navigate to the facility's page on the site and scroll down to the Commissary Lists section. You will find itemized lists with current prices. Keep in mind that only the inmate can make purchases at commissary, typically once per week, and they use funds deposited into their inmate account. You can add money to that account through the approved deposit method for their facility, which InmateAid can also help you find.

On the visitation question, whether virtual visits are available and whether they can be arranged before an in-person visit depends entirely on the specific facility. Video visitation exists at many county jails and some state facilities, but it is not uniformly available, particularly in the federal system. If the option exists at your person's facility, the process typically still requires you to be on the approved visitor list first, which means the inmate has to submit your information through their case manager or counselor before you can schedule any type of visit, virtual or in-person.

Call the facility directly to ask whether video visitation is offered and what the signup process looks like. That will give you a definitive answer faster than anything else.
