Subject: Residential drug abuse program (rdap)

FCI Jesup does have the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), which would reduce the length of an inmate's federal sentence by 12-months (plus 6 months of halfway house) if eligible. Eligibility begins and ends with the Pre-Sentence Report that is proffered to the judge prior to sentencing. If there is no mention of drug use or alcohol dependency or abuse in this report, there are no other options or appeals that will get the inmate into the program.

Most inmates in the SHU are allowed visitation in a limited form. The SHU inmates are allowed mail and one phone 15-minute call per week. The SHU is a nasty existence. Solitary confinement could make anyone a little crazy. When I was there, every minute felt like an hour... time just drips slowly.

No. There are no visitations for former inmates, people on probation, parole or with felonies allowed. They may apply for special dispensation to the warden. The warden is the only person at the facility that can override this very strict rule.

You will need to contact the inmate's counselor and tell them the situation. You will then be able to send the un-signed check to the facility where they will have your inmate endorse the check to be deposited in their commisary/phone account.

Depending on where the visit takes place, the general rule is that you may bring twenty dollars in coins and/or small bills and it must be brought in a clear, see-through purse/container. Some places allow you to bring a little more money, but the rules are still the same. Also, remember that this is to be used for the vending machines, you must make the purchase, don't let the inmate even touch the money whatsoever.
