The staff does a thorough screening at orientation which assesses the physical, mental, and emotional health of the incoming inmate. They determine if that the addiction needs immediate attention, or conclude that general population incarceration along with drug addiction programming within the prison is the treatment path. The length of sentence, type of crime and other mitigating factors ALSO determine the designation of a sentenced offender.

it is very different because the feds have a bigger budget. the guards are better paid and very well trained. The food is better, the recreation and housing is more updated. Some state prisons in the south do not even have air conditioning.

If Butner is his designation, then he will eventually get transferred. They are not going to give you (or him) any indication of when that will happen for obvious reasons. The transfer guards keep dates, times, and travel routes confidential. They are very efficient at what they do, just be patient... one day you'll get a call from Butner saying, "I'm here".

This one is a slippery slope. The correct way of going about it is to ask for permission from your wife's warden or even your probation officer (assuming you are on paper now). If they will not grant it, you risk re-offending by going around the rules like using a different name... if they catch on, it'll be a problem for you both.
