Big Sandy is either a United States Penitentiary with the federal BOP system or Big Sandy Regional Detention Center. The USP is far more strict and a tougher road for an inmate. Visitation might be tough the first time around. You get searched thoroughly and the visits are under heavy supervision. They are non-contact visits. It is highly recommended that prior to an inmate visit you call the jail or penitentiary to confirm that visits have not been cancelled.

Probably not but you could call the facility and ask to speak with the chaplain. Sometimes they have a way of getting the rules bent for visitiaton if the person asking is super-nice and humble.

The probation officer and the original judge will make that decision. The factors will be the the nature of the original offense and the terms of his release and probation. The DUI is VERY problematic and our expectation would be that he would have to do the remaining time left on the original sentence and pray he does not get another charge for the dangerous DUI

You could visit him as long as you do not have a felony conviction on your record. Applying for permission is a very simple process.

Unfortunately there is not much an inmate can do to get their sentenced shortened especially under a violent crime conviction, unless they are willing to share information with law enforcement that leads to the conviction of another person. Most inmates do not want to be known as a snitch but to get 3-5 years taken off the sentence, some think it is worth it.
