Subject: Offender phone calls
There are NO companies that have "true" unlimited calling. The prisons contract with ONE phone company only - they are a monopoly and can charge huge long distance fees. But, they can only charge a nominal or small fee for a local calls.Securus is one of these prison phone companies. They are very aggressive in their fees. The ONLY way to beat them is to get a local line and set up the calling account online separate from your long...

Subject: Sending mail inside
Mail continues even during lockdown. Federal prison camps are not "terrible" when it comes to prison life, even during a lockdown. Most probably visitation is suspended and maybe phone privileges or commissary. There must have been some rules violation that is creating this mass punishment but in the camps, they rarely last a long time.

Absolutely. In fact, the best thing you can do for someone in segregation is to fill their days with plenty of stuff to read. Letters and photos keep them connected - but books, magazines and newspapers will bridge that gap of no outside contact.
Subject: Visitation
Usually, new inmates that are not in the general population are awaiting a decision on just where they will place them based upon their criminal history and how crowded the prison is has some factors.  If the inmate is low-risk for instance, they might not have a space until someone gets moved so they wouldn't place him in a potentially dangerous situation. Or vise versa. This time period is confusing but it is mainly done to make sure they do...

There are a few with the name "Florence" in them.  Some are county, some are state and some are federal facilities.  Check the Prison Directory on the home page for details. InmateAid gives you a local number that you use to set up with the phone carrier - like Global Tel Link. Make sure that it's a completely separate account from your long distance account.  Add money to the new account and now the calls will be billed only a local calling charge (no per minute price) wiping out that $1.00+ per minute charge you've been paying.

Knowing more about the case will help locate that information. What was he charged with? What jurisdiction charged him (state, federal)? Was there violence?  Sometimes when someone is arrested near the weekend, they will make them wait until Monday for arraignment. Possibly the judge was not available. You could call the facility and ask - or call the Clerk of the Court as they would know too.

Yes, inmates are allowed to have glasses or contact lenses. Glasses might be easier to care for in the event that the commissary doesn't have a good selection of eye care solution to maintain it.  Some facilities will provide eyewear for the inmates, give them an exam and the glasses  If you are going to send them, you should call the facility and let them know your intention - get a name of a staff person who will receive them...

The county jails do not accept any form of health insurance - and it's because your insurance doesn't cover you while incarcerated. If he needs dental work or especially a root canal, then he will definitely have money taken from his account to cover the cost. There are some county jails where the inmates even have to pay for their incarceration - a daily rate.
