Yes, newly released inmates can actually use their prison ID as acceptable identification along with their birth certificate to get a permanent ID card and even a driver's license. Speaking as a former inmate, I can say that "I've learned my lesson and I am very aware that the decisions facing me going forward will be made with a lot of contemplation about potential consequences."
